Steelers Draft Review

The hard hitting Pittsburgh Steelers look to rebuild their defense with a satisfying draft for the 2016 season. With the first round draft pick out of The University of Miami, the Pittsburgh Steelers selected Artie Burns. The long, lengthy, and physical corner out of The U shows great coverage skill, the ability to tackle in open space, and great ball skill.

We can predict that Burns will have a similar role to previous Steelers corner back Ike Taylor. The Pittsburgh Steelers look to rebuild the defense that arguably cost them the loss in the 2015 playoffs against the Denver Broncos. A team that is known for DEFENSE, is taking the steps in the right direction to rebuild the Steel Curtain.

In the 2nd round of the NFL draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers select Sean Davis, safety out of The University Maryland. Davis looks to add support to the Steelers secondary. These positions are tough to fill after Hall of Famer Troy Polamula retired after the 2014 season. Current players Will Allen, and Mike Mitchell at safety could use some back up after battling in the trenches play after play after play.

In the 3rd round of the NFL draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers select Javon Hargrave, defensive tackle out of South Carolina State. Hargrave looks to clog gaps for the Steelers 3-4 defense. The DT may have been a steal for the Steelers as Hargrave has a lot of potential to battle for a starting position for the upcoming training camp.

This was a successful draft as this defense continues to battle through injury due to long play and hard hitting season after season. The Pittsburgh Steelers has one of the best offenses in the NFL returning with Ben Roethlisberger, LeVeon Bell ,Antonio Brown, and Deangelo Williams.
