When it comes to professional sports, it is a great opportunity to make millions and millions of dollars....But did you know not every sport has guaranteed contracts? A number of athletes enter the professional sports world every year, while a number of athletes are retiring from the sports world.

Injury comes along with playing sports.
There are numerous stories where a young rookie enters in the NFL at the age of 21, this rookie earns this large million dollar contract, to only be cut because of a repetitive injury that keeps him out of play. Unfortunately, that contract could be taken away along with that money. With the NFL, there are no guaranteed contracts versus the NBA who does.
It is scary to think at any second your career could be ended by making the wrong move, and the team that you thought was 100% committed to you now has terminated your contract....Now what?

The most important thing that an athlete can do for them self, is save their money. We hear about these athletes who will spend $50,000 on shoes on top of the Ferrari they purchased last week. After buying everyone cars and I pads you check your account and somehow it became negative....

Some examples of these athletes range from all different sports. The most popular name at the top, Mike Tyson. Other examples of these athletes that went broke are Latrelle Sprewell, Vince Young, Marion Jones, Marc Brunnell, the list goes on and on.
Now don't get me wrong if I had the money, i'd go out and buy myself something nice, a nice home, and a car but to a certain extent. Let's get that big contract and make it stretch for the rest of my life. You already have millions of dollars, why not hire an accountant to help you with financing or investing into something that can bring you cash flow?

Lets talk statistics. The average career length of professional athletes for the following sports are...
NFL career average is 3.5 years
This hard hitting sport is continuous ware and tear on the body. Every single play, every down, you are making contact with players who are running 20 mph. Not to mention all the blows to the head that can cause serious brain issues down the road. Football is the most brutal sport by far and has the least career average length. Again, the NFL does not have guaranteed contracts, so It is very important to save that money wisely.

MLB career average is 5.6 years

Baseball in my opinion is the best professional sport to play. Even though there are 89 games plus in a season, all these baseball players are doing is hitting and throwing baseballs.
It also helps to have a large team where you can sit out a game to rest up if needed. These contracts are guaranteed and they are HUGE.
NBA career average is 4.8 years

Basketball is another great sport to participate in. Running up and down the court, banging bodies in the paint, and falling on the court can be exhausting but you are not putting your body over the edge every game. These contracts are similar to baseball with guaranteed contracts that are HUGE. It doesn't take the strongest and fastest players in the NBA to be able to put points on the board or defend the paint.

NHL career average is 5.5 years
The numbers for hockey are a surprise to me. Hockey is a rough sport where players are willing and able to scrap in a fist fight in the middle of a game. Not to mention the hard hitting hits against one another against the glass. These players wear a solid amount of equipment to protect them when hitting the ice. Hockey is also a very physical sport on the board.
